"Cut. Bleed. Repeat." - Project Vengeance (Song Review)

Who would have thought that todays top deathcore pioneers would have came together to create something so disgusting? I mean disgusting as in something so brutally composed? (All compliments by the way.) I am never disappointed by any of these vocalist like ever.

For those who don't know, Project Vengeance (originally The Big 6) is a collective of deathcore vocalists Darius Tehrani of Spite, Richard (Dickie) Allen of Infant Annihilator, Taylor Barber of  Left to Suffer, Tyler Shelton of Traitors, and  Will Ramos of Lorna Shore. All five have come together to record the long anticipated song "Cut. Bleed. Repeat." which was finally released on March 8th, 2023. I have to say, I am not disappointed.

What I like about it...

A lot can be said about what I like about this song, but I'll try to condense it as much as possible.

First off, it kicks ass, and definitely delivers as an ass beater of a song. This "ass beater" of a song was worth the wait 100%.

It almost seems as though these guys were purposely put together as each guy has very unique and different vocal techniques (e.g. Will Ramos and Dickie Allen with their high goblin - like screams and Taylor and his lower, growl like gutterals.) If it was on purpose, they're all a great match for one another. If it was coincidence, holy shit.

What's okay...

People can come at me for this, but I was a little disappointed that there weren't more breakdowns, and the breakdown at the end was a little underwhelming. But that's just my opinion entirely.

What I don't like...

What kind of irks me about this track is that the mixing is a little iffy. I feel like it definitely could have been better mixed and put together, and since it's a little off, the vocals merge together in a way where if you knew nothing of deathcore vocalists, you would essentially struggle with picking out who's who.

In conclusion...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, every vocalist in this song is carrying the metal scene. Whether you like them or not, all of them are making music history right before our eyes. I myself was never really into deathcore before discovering these guys, but now I've dove deeper into the deathcore genre and find myself fangirling over all of these dudes. I hope they all continue to make history in the future as their talents deserve to be recognized and heard.

Metallica Is Back?? "If Darkness Had a Son" (Song Review)

Nothing is greater than a band whose been around since the 80s and is still standing strong in the metal/rock scene. Whether newer releases are good or not, you have to respect the commitment, integrity, and hard work. Metallica is definitely that band.

What I like about it:

Kirk's opening riff and main riff remind me a lot of  Metallica's Ride the Lightning era, and James' vocals as well as lyrics remind me of the black album era. Both, in my opinion, are exceptionally masterful (pun intended) albums.

I also really enjoy the classic "Metallica build-up" in the beginning. Starting with Lars, then Robert, then James, and then finally Kirk. It makes me feel as though I'm some badass warrior about to enter battle. Build-ups seem to be Metallica's staple, and I'm definitely not complaining.

What's okay:

I could just be so brainwashed by fast, double-kick deathcore drums, but the drums didn't really do it for me. People may have their opinions on Lar's drumming skills, and I think he's a great drummer, however, the drums on this track bored me.

Throughout the track, I thought as though there wasn't much change throughout the song. It sounds almost like an AC/DC song where nothing changes in relation to the drum beat for the whole song. Every part of the track except for the intro and pre-choruses sounds extremely similar.

What I don't like:

It's. Just. Not. Heavy. Enough. For. Me. To me, this song is definitely not a flop, but this song is nowhere near as heavy as lots of other Metallica classics. This is just my opinion, and you may or may not disagree with me, and that's on you. However, put this song next to Sad But True or For Whom the Bell Tolls, this song looks like a scared, little kitten next to two massive, mean-looking dogs.

In conclusion...

Metallica will forever be one of the most well-known (if not the most well-known) pioneers of metal. Love them or hate them, they're never going to just fade to black (another pun intended.) They influence thousands of today's musicians, and I have nothing but respect for them for continuing to put music out and absolutely killing live performances (in a good way.) They're proof of passion for music, so therefore, Metallica will never be stopped.

Goblin Screams?? "Into the Earth" - Lorna Shore (Song Review)

Original post: https://mellowickdiaries.wordpress.com/2022/06/25/this-sht-slaps-into-the-earth-lorna-shore-song-review/

First off, this song makes me want to walk barefoot on a sheet of metal in 100-degree weather, and I mean that in the best way possible.

This song (especially with the music video) completely slapped me in the face, and with Lorna Shore, you’re guaranteed to be in for a heavy treat. This did not disappoint.

Lorna Shore is currently the best metal band in the metal scene right now. You. Can’t. Change. My mind. I always refer to these guys as “Skyrim metal” because they’re so heavy with current vocalist Will Ramos’s demon pig gutturals, yet carry such beautiful choirs and orchestras within every song on their most recent releases. This piece doesn’t acquire as much elements, but I still can’t help but shed a few tears while listening to something so flawless.

Musically and lyrically, this song is brilliant, and I also hear a classical take in some parts of this piece. I can almost imagine this song stripped from the heaviness and replaced by more strings and it would still sound so beautiful. And for the lyrics? Pure poetry. Sure, you might not be able to understand everything he’s saying, but why does that matter now? Just look up the lyrics and see for yourself.

I’ve recently fallen in love with Lorna Shore after hearing To the Hellfire (as of many). However, I’ve known about the band for awhile, and the change in vocalists has been the best thing to ever happen to this group. Will never fails to disappoint, and after watching multiple interviews, Will seems to know what he’s doing. Harmful screams are obviously very bad for your vocals, but this man has grasped on to the right techniques and remedies to keep his voice safe. He’s leaving a huge imprint on the metal world and will become a vocalist to never forget. I hope this band continues to grow and shake the metal scene .

Meanwhile, I’ll continue to burn the bottoms of my feet on a sheet of metal to this masterpiece, and disgust my grandma with Will’s goblin screams.
